Although a slightly overdramatic subtitle, I absolutely love Ypulse.com.
Ypulse is technically for marketers and other media professionals (their tag line is “Daily news and commentary about generation Y for media and marketing professionals…”), but I think you might find it very useful. This site is a one-stop-shop for everything media that your child may be exposed to–online games, tv shows, magazines, websites, books, movies, gadgets, music, etc.
I receive the Ypulse newsletter every day, and it is chocked full of information parents probably never think about, but probably should. The newsletter contains lists and lists of information about what forms of media kids are interested in and how marketers are trying to reach this particular demographic. Ypulse links to sources ranging from U.S. News and World Report to CosmoGIRL! to The Wall Street Journal to personal blogs.
Here are just a few examples of recent posts that you might find interesting:
The brilliant mind behind Ypulse is a journalist named Anastasia Goodstein. Not only is she able to compile some of the best information on youth and media every day, she also finds time to write books as well as give commentary to very influential members of the media, and do a ton of public speaking.
Youth media is everywhere, and companies spend a lot of time and money to reach their target audience: children, tweens, and teens. Odds are, your child might be exposed to new forms of media before you even have a clue. Why not get ahead of the game and find out what’s new before your child hears about it?
I highly recommend Ypulse.com–it’s worth checking out.
